Custom Insert Day 1

Today was just amazing being able to get the process of my customized insert started. We started with this blue foam and took an imprint of my seat which will be used to make the bottom mold piece with first a cast mold and then a beaded mold.

Trip to Colorado

Today I went to the gym this morning and had a great workout with Mace doing a wide variety of different machines, and Hand Weights. I really can't wait to start skiing and see how my improvement in the gym these last few months will change my skiing abilitites.
Tomorrow I am off to Denver Colorado to Aspen seating. I am going to be working with Joe on my customized bucket for my Mono Ski. I will hopefully post lost of pictures of him making it. On Saturday we move from Denver up to Breckenridge and start to skiing camp. I am really looking forward to trying my new bucket which will fit a lot better more like a boot and also see how the improvements are in my Praschburger from last season.
I am really looking forward to seeing my friends and fellow team mates at the training camp.

Summer Update

In April 2011, I was awarded a grant from Challenge Athlete Foundation to help in the pursuit of getting a customized bucket from Aspen Seating for my mono ski. In talking with Aspen seating we have come up with a price that will require me to do additional fundraising. I am asking that any additional help possible from my friends and family will be greatly appreciated.
Not only am I fundraising for my bucket, but I am also fundraising for my 2011-2012 race/training season. My racing schedule will come out later in the summer and I will keep everyone up to date. I have been working out in the gym on a pretty regular basis.

February Race Camp

During the week we worked on some drills that helped put us in a better skiing position more down the hill and looking ahead down the hill so that we were prepard for whatwas ahead.
I had a good experience with someone helping me figureing out the best race line by helping to tell me when to start my turn and when to finish it. The person was right behind me in the course as I was going down. That seemed to really help me.

Well it has been a busy few weeks. I had my green belt Shiai with Sensei Jon Bottomms on October 28, 2010. Followed by an Incrediable Spaghetti Dinner hosted by Kathy Dockum, Kati Murphy and Julie Williams on October 29, 2010. What an expereience for both events. Meeting so many people who want to help me be successful in my racing career from my home town and surounding towns and neighbors.

Well its fall now and I have had a busy summer.

This summer I went to the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York for a 3 day camp hosted by DSUSA. I learned a lot of new stretches this year while at the camp. Met a great group of people and got a lot of new information on how to make my self a better Athlete.

When I got back from the Camp, I started a part time job which allowed me to save money for a new mono ski. I have been training with Jon Bottomms at the Vermont Country Store's gym 3 times a week. We have been doing a variety of different exercises and cardio training as well. Back in June, Jon got contacted by the Vermont Special Olympics committee to do a demonstration of the Martial Arts System and show that it could be done by many different athletes. Jon asked me to participate in the demonstration with him because I am a sitting athlete and there are many different techniques that can be used for someone who isn't able to stand.

After helping Jon with the demonstration I was approached by my local town of Bennington to help coach the athletes for the stand up soccer season, so I have been volunteering to do that ones a week with the skills group. We work on moving the ball down the field with out a lot of interception by other players and help them build confidence to be able to go out and play in the game for the following year.

I have also volunteered to do a little bit of kayaking and cycling demonstrations with the Bart Center in Manchester this summer to get more out in the community.

I have been riding my hand cycle with a group of guys out of Manchester and Bennington area weekly, and now I am looking forward to my new mono ski coming in December and getting ready for ski season.

Summer has gone by so fast

It seems as though the summer is going by so fast. With all this rain we have had it has made it for an interesting time.

I have had the oppertunity to enjoy kayaking and handcycling inbetween the rain drops. I have been keeping up with my work out at the gym with my trainer. Today I took a nice little couple mile ride and really enjoyed being outside before it rained.

Monday July 27th through Thursday July 30th. I am heading to Lake Placid, New York to the Olympic Training Center for Indoor Dryland Training. Im really looking forward to seeing some of my friends from the Winter and also getting to focus on working out more.

I will try and take some pictures while I am there and share with everyone.
